Climate activists from the Spain-based environmental group Futuro Vegetal attacked the superyacht of Walmart heiress Nancy Walton Laurie in Ibiza, vandalizing it with red and black paint. The incident took place on Sunday and was captured in photographs showing two activists holding a sign that read: “You Consume Others Suffer.” A crew member was seen using a hose to clean off the paint from the side of the boat.
The group shared images and videos of the attack on their Instagram account, accompanied by a statement condemning the economic system that leads to ecological and social collapse. They criticized the privileged class, accusing the mega-rich of living off the suffering of others. The group highlighted the exploitation of animals, destruction of territories, and the overall disregard for the well-being of the planet caused by those at the top of the social pyramid.
Just two days before targeting the superyacht, Futuro Vegetal had sprayed a private jet with black and yellow paint as a form of protest.
Nancy Walton Laurie, the owner of the yacht, inherited a stake in Walmart from her father in 1995. According to Forbes, her estimated net worth is around $8.7 billion. The yacht, named “Kaos,” is valued at $300 million and measures 361 feet in length with four decks. It can accommodate 31 guests and has a crew of 45. The luxurious features of the yacht include spa facilities, an aquarium, a cinema, gyms for guests and crew, and a small hospital for emergencies.
