Jake Paul and Nate Diaz are set to step into the boxing ring on August 5th at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. The eight-round fight, weighing in at 185 pounds, was announced on Wednesday by Diaz’s company, Real Fight Inc., and Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions. The event will be broadcasted by DAZN.
This will be Diaz’s first appearance since becoming a free agent following the end of his stint with the UFC. Diaz had been searching for potential fights and ultimately decided on a match with Paul in the boxing ring. The two fighters have been engaged in a bitter war of words for the past couple of years, and now they’ll face off to settle the score.
Diaz, a native of Stockton, California, has long been considered one of the best boxers in MMA, and he’s looking to bring that expertise into the ring. In a press release, Diaz said, “Besides ‘Canelo’ [Alvarez], he’s the biggest thing in boxing. I’m here to conquer that. I’m the king of combat sports, and then I’m headed back to get my UFC belts. I f***** up Conor for acting out, and now here I am again, like a Super Hero of the Real Fight game, the King of the Real Fight game.”
On the other hand, Paul is returning to the ring following a split decision loss to Tommy Fury in February. The Diaz fight marks his comeback. Initially, a rematch with Fury seemed imminent, but instead, Paul will be facing off against Diaz.
“My last fight didn’t end the way I wanted, but the result was the best thing that could have happened to my professional boxing aspirations,” said Paul. “Now, the world thinks I am vulnerable when all I am is more focused than ever. Nate Diaz is considered one of the most badass fighters of all time, but he and his team have been running their mouths for too long.”
The two fighters will wear 10-ounce gloves, and more fights will be added to the Paul vs. Diaz card in the coming weeks.
