Columnist warns Trump’s ghosts will soon come back to haunt him as ‘momentary grace’ fades

A political columnist warned President Donald Trump on Monday that his administration’s ghosts will soon come back to haunt him after the “momentary grace” following the White House Correspondents’ Dinner fades. David Rothkopf, a columnist for The Daily Beast, argued during a new episode of “The Daily Beast Podcast” with host Joanna Coles that Trump will soon have to face issues like his ties to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, his disastrous handling of the war in Iran, and the stagnant economy as memory of the shooting fades. On Saturday, a lone gunman fired several rounds inside the Washington Hilton, where the dinner was being held. None of the shots were fired on the same floor occupied by the president and members of his cabinet. No one was killed during the incident, and the shooter was arrested on the scene. “I think this weekend’s story is going to get a lot of play because there were so many journalists there for whom this was a big event,” Rothkopf said. “They can talk about it in a first-person sense, but it was actually meaningless.”Since the shooting, Trump has tried to blame left-wing rhetoric for the attack. Rothkopf warned that Trump’s efforts may not pay the dividends that he is looking for. “It won’t change the subject, and tomorrow or next week, when you and I get together for this conversation again, what’s going to happen?” he added. “We’ll be talking about Iran. We’ll be talking about Epstein. We’ll be talking about Trump’s corruption. We’ll be talking about his mismanagement of the government. We’ll be talking about the next unexpected crisis that is caused by the fact that he is a lone wolf whack job. The momentary grace that he gets out of … Butler 2.0′ … is just not going to last.”
