Prey has quickly shot up the Netflix rankings, with viewers desperate to discover how the first series ends.
DS Susan Reinhardt (played by Rosie Cavaliero) is charged with hunting down escaped convict DC Marcus Farrow (John Simm) after he is arrested and accused of murdering his wife and youngest son.
He manages to escape when the police van carrying him is involved in a crash, prompting Farrow to flee in order to uncover the true identity of his family’s killer.
Prey season one ending explained
After taking matters into his own hands, Farrow uncovers that it was DS Reinhardt’s superior DCI Andrea MacKenzie (Anastasia Hille) who was responsible for their deaths.
Some years before the events of Prey, she had been brutally attacked by Turkish gangster Omer Hassan while working undercover, leaving her close to death.
Seeking retribution, MacKenzie hunted him down, killed Hassan and attempted to conceal her involvement.
However, Farrow had discs containing damning evidence proving she was behind the killing.
In a desperate attempt to cover her tracks, MacKenzie dispatched a burglar to break into his home and take the discs, but the intruder was disturbed by Farrow’s wife and son, resulting in their murders.
MacKenzie then orchestrates events to frame Farrow as the real killer, diverting attention away from her own crimes.
It is further revealed that she was also responsible for the death of her colleague DI Sean Devlin (Craig Parkinson), who had been edging dangerously close to the truth.
In a tense confrontation with Reindhardt recording MacKenzie’s confession, Farrow is quickly cleared of all accusations levelled against him.
However, this occurs only after MacKenzie attempts to end her own life by shooting herself, though Farrow manages to knock the weapon from her grasp in the nick of time.
While her career and standing are left in ruins, Farrow is able to reunite with his eldest son who mercifully survived the ordeal.
Prey seasons one and two are available to watch on Netflix.
