Two men have been arrested after a fight broke out inside a David Lloyd gym in Merseyside. Police were called to the gym on the Knowsley Industrial Estate on Arbour Lane at around 6.10pm yesterday, Monday, April 27, to reports two men were found injured after reportedly fighting inside the David Lloyd.
A 46-year-old man from Brighton-le-Sands and a 53-year-old man from Netherley were both found at the scene and subsequently arrested on suspicion of affray. They have been taken to police stations for questioning.
In videos shared widely online, two men were seen fighting in what appears to be the men’s changing room of the gym.
A witness has since told the ECHO how staff were called over the tannoy to the men’s changing room following the altercation breaking out.
One video shared online shows one man being led away by officers after a patrol car arrived at the gym.
Detective inspector Edward Barr has since labelled the incident “shocking” as children were in the gym at the time of the fight.
In his statement, DI Barr also called for people to refrain from commenting on social media about the incident and instead go to Merseyside Police with information.
He said: “This would have been a shocking incident to witness, carried out in full view of members of the public nearby, including children.
“We are gathering all available evidence and want to speak to anyone who saw what happened, or has since received information.
“Two men are in custody and we are working hard to establish the timeline of this incident.
“We are aware of social media video of the incident and I would urge people with information not to comment on such channels, but come into us directly so as not to hinder the investigation.”
