Donald Trump has announced that the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon has been prolonged by three weeks following what he described as “historic” negotiations.
The US president revealed the decision was reached after talks between American, Israeli and Lebanese representatives in the Oval Office today, stating that the US will collaborate with Lebanon to “help it protect itself from Hezbollah.”
The discussions, which also included Vice-President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, proceeded “very well,” according to Trump, reports the Mirror.
He described it as a “great honour” to participate in the “very historic meeting” and expressed his anticipation of welcoming Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in the coming weeks.
Writing on Truth Social following the meeting, Trump stated: “The United States is going to work with Lebanon in order to help it protect itself from Hezbollah. The Ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon will be extended by THREE WEEKS.”
“I look forward in the near future to hosting the Prime Minister of Israel, Bibi Netanyahu, and the President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun. It was a Great Honor to be a participant at this very Historic Meeting! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
