A major baby food producer has withdrawn a widely-sold product, as it may present a risk to certain youngsters. Customers who have purchased the item are being advised on the appropriate steps to take if affected.
A product recall alert published by the Food Standards Agency states that HiPP Organic 7+ months Vegetable Lasagne 190g jar may represent a health concern following an error on the packaging. The notice explained: “HiPP Organic UK is recalling 7+ months Vegetable Lasagne 190g jar because it contains celeriac (celery) which is not emphasised (in bold) on the label.
“No other HiPP Organic UK products are known to be affected.” The affected item comes in a 190g jar, carries batch code B49311 and has a best before date of January 31, 2027, reports the Mirror.
The FSA stated: “This product contains celeriac, making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to celery.” HiPP Organic has clarified how the error was made.
It said: “We are recalling our 7+ months Vegetable Lasagne jar due to a labelling error which occurred during the latest artwork print refresh. The allergen celeriac has not been highlighted in bold within the ingredients list, which makes it a possible health risk for babies with an allergy to celeriac.”
The company informed shoppers: “If you have bought the above product and your baby has an allergy to celeriac, please do not feed it to them and contact us for reimbursement. Contact our customer services team, either by emailing us at [email protected] or by calling us on 0800 298 4477 (Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, excluding Bank Holidays).”
HiPP Organic stands as one of the foremost baby food brands with over 125 years of heritage. The company’s website states its products are manufactured “using premium quality organic ingredients with strict quality standards which exceed EU and UK regulations”.
It continues: “Every recipe is carefully crafted, tailoring nutrition*, taste, texture, and portion size for each stage of your baby’s journey. ” According to the website: “All HiPP organic recipes meet the legal requirements for baby foods. This means no artificial ingredients, preservatives or additives are used.
“They are also tailored to the specific nutritional needs of babies and toddlers. As a brand, we also go beyond the legal requirements by never adding any salt or refined sugar to our recipes.”
