Fans Supporting Foodbanks have hit out at a “chancer” who stole a collection bucket during one of its matchday drives outside Anfield. Posting on X, the charity said: “After over 10 years of foodbank collections at Anfield, Goodison Park and the HDS some chancer took the opportunity to steal our collection bucket this evening.
“Shame on you, I hope your need is greater than the people we feed and the CCTV images are as clear as can be.”
The volunteer-led organisation has spent more than a decade supporting people facing food poverty across Liverpool.
Fans Supporting Foodbanks (FSF) was founded in 2015 by Everton supporters Dave Kelly and Robbie Daniels, alongside Liverpool fan and West Derby MP Ian Byrne. What began as a small effort collecting donations in a wheelie bin outside Goodison Park has since grown into a major community initiative.
Now a registered charity with a board of trustees, FSF continues to unite football fans from across rival clubs in a vital mission to tackle hunger in the city.
The group holds collections at Liverpool and Everton home games, with donations helping to supply a network of eight food pantries across Liverpool.
These pantries support up to 2,500 people each week, providing not only essential food and household goods but also a welcoming community space for those in need.
Run entirely by volunteers, the pantries aim to offer dignity and connection, as well as practical support.
Despite the theft, FSF’s work continues, with matchday collections remaining a vital source of support for thousands of local people.
Newly elected Chair, Dave Kelly previously told the ECHO: “When Robbie, Ian and I first stood outside the Winslow pub opposite Goodison Park with a wheelie bin to collect food, we never thought that ten years later we’d still be doing what we do.
“Although we are now a registered charity, with a board of trustees and on a formal footing, we remain a grassroots organisation embedded in our football fan communities, trying to do our bit to help our neighbours.
“You never know who might need our help but while they do, we will be there.”
