Coronation Street fans fear Todd Grimshaw could be killed off after being left battered and bloodied by husband Theo Silverton

Coronation Street fans are fearing the worst for Todd Grimshaw after he was left beaten and bloodied by the villainous Theo Silverton.

Todd (now portrayed by Gareth Pierce) has been a cornerstone of the soap since his first appearance in 2001, playing a significant role in numerous landmark moments throughout his time on the programme.

This is particularly true right now, as Todd finds himself at the centre of a deeply distressing storyline examining abuse within a same-sex relationship. Over the past year, Todd’s boyfriend Theo (James Cartwright) has been manipulating and mistreating him in an effort to dominate every facet of his life.

Viewers believed matters had finally reached breaking point when the couple separated last month, only for them to get back together. Things then took yet another dramatic twist when the pair ended up wed after Theo sprung a surprise wedding on Todd.

Thankfully, Theo’s web of deceit is beginning to unravel on the cobbles, as Todd’s father figure and workmate George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley), alongside friends Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) and Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby), have seen through the scheming builder, reports the Daily Star.

Furthermore, knowing he’s being exposed and that he left Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) for dead in the Corriedale car crash earlier this year, Theo is desperately attempting to relocate to Belfast with Todd while his nearest and dearest try to intervene.

Yet this week, while Theo was in the shower, Todd made a bid for freedom, only for his abusive husband to appear and launch a savage attack on him inside the flat. At the close of the episode, viewers watched Sarah answer the intercom at her flat, recognising Todd’s voice.

It was evident he could barely speak, and a frantic Sarah dropped the phone and dashed outside to discover Todd on the doorstep, drenched in blood and unable to stay upright.

Despite spoilers confirming that Todd ultimately reports Theo to the police over his abuse, fans are fearful that Todd could be written out of the show permanently.

On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, viewers are speculating that Todd could succumb to his injuries further down the line. “Is Todd going to die?” pondered one viewer.

Another added: “I think he’ll end up dying from the injuries Theo gave him. He looked awful.” A third pointed out: “Oh like Leyla in Emmerdale, referring to Leyla’s (Roxy Shahidi) tragic death after being involved in the limo crash last year. A fourth agreed: “Good point, like internal bleeding maybe?”

Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX
