The teenager is currently in hospital with serious injuries

A 17-year-old boy suffered serious injuries after being knocked off his bike by a suspected drug driver. The teenager was cycling on Seaview Road in Liscard on Thursday, April 23, at around 5pm when the incident occurred.

When the ECHO visited Seaview Road just before 7pm on April 23, one police car was parked up on the corner of Earlston Road. A blue Nissan was being taken away on a truck. Two residents on Earlston Road said the crash happened on their doorstep.

A man said: “A young lad on a bike was hit by a car. That’s all we know.” A woman added: “This was about 5.55pm. We stayed with him. It wasn’t very nice. He didn’t go in the air ambulance, just the standard ambulance.”Other neighbours expressed their concerns. One man said: “I got home from work at about 5pm. At about 6pm I saw people crowded around a person in the road. There were three police cars and two ambulances.”Another man added: “A cyclist got hit. The air ambulance landed in the park. It looked pretty bad.”

The boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the car, a 58-year-old woman from Liscard, was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving, police said.

In a statement issued today, April 24, a Merseyside Police spokesman said: “We have arrested a woman on suspicion of driving offences following a serious collision in Liscard yesterday, Thursday April 23.

“At around 5pm, emergency services were called to Seaview Road to reports of a collision involving a car and a cyclist, a 17-year-old boy. The cyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“The driver of the car, a 58-year-old woman from Liscard, was arrested on suspicion of Drug driving and Causing serious injury by careless driving.”
