The report was published at a time when the Trump administration is facing mounting criticism for its attempts to prosecute its political foes. Courts have removed multiple Trump prosecutors for illegally serving in their roles, which has impacted the prosecutions of people like former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey, both of whom were involved in the 2016 investigation into Russia’s interference in the general election.
