Joe Rogan turned part of a podcast chat with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang into a jokey dig at his sometime-pal President Donald Trump this week. Poking fun at the way the 79 year-old leader fires off text messages, the world’s most successful podcaster said that the president often sends lines like ‘USA is RESPECTED again’ in full caps, which makes the font boom out on his phone. ‘He just calls you – or texts you – out of the blue. With my iPhone, it makes the text go big. Like all caps and it makes the text enlarge. It’s kind of ridiculous.’ (Picture: Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC)
Rogan said the president has a habit of contacting him without warning. According to the UFC pundit, ‘he’s an odd guy’ who will drop in with a call or text that feels as if it came from nowhere. Huang nodded along as someone who has dealt with the same abrupt bursts of communication from the president. Huang told Rogan that the private version of Trump isn’t quite the one seen at rallies or press calls. He described the president as ‘a surprising guy’ when the cameras are off, saying: ‘He’s an incredibly good listener. Almost everything I’ve ever said to him, he’s remembered.’ Rogan agreed and said the public tend to latch onto ‘negative narratives’ that drown out other sides of Trump. Even so he admitted that ‘there’s a lot of things he does’ that cross a line, including an insult aimed at a reporter during one tense recent press briefing… (Picture: Andrew Harnik/Getty Images)
Joe brought up the moment Trump pointed at Bloomberg White House correspondent Catherine Lucey and snapped at her to be ‘quiet, quiet piggy’ after she asked a follow-up question about Jeffrey Epstein. ‘I mean, that’s pretty ridiculous,’ Rogan said. ‘Also objectively funny. I mean, it’s unfortunate that it happened to her. I wouldn’t want that to happen to her, but it was funny. Just ridiculous that the president does that.’ (Picture: REUTERS)
The chat also touched on Rogan’s own link with the president. He endorsed Trump just one day before the 2024 election, which several commentators later suggested may have even tipped the race. Rogan didn’t address the impact of this decision but kept steering the discussion back to the private interactions he and Huang have had with the president. (Picture: Getty Images)
He said that however messy the headlines get those personal moments often reveal someone quite unlike his public persona. Rogan said: ‘He’s just very different, you know. Very different than what people think of him. And also just very different as a president.’ (Picture: AFP)
Rogan described Trump as a ‘79-year-old kid’ whose behaviour sometimes mirrors that label. The president is yet to speak publicly about the comments made on Rogan’s incredibly popular podcast The Joe Rogan Experience. (Picture: Bloomberg via Getty Images)
