The health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza has released alarming figures, stating that at least 23,843 people have been killed in the ongoing war between Palestinian militants and Israel, which has spanned 99 days. Additionally, the ministry reported 60,317 wounded since the conflict’s onset on October 7. Many remain trapped under the rubble, adding to the gravity of the situation.
Overnight Israeli strikes in Gaza have further escalated the death toll, with health officials confirming at least 60 fatalities
in the besieged territory. These strikes coincided with a telecommunications blackout, further complicating the crisis.
The situation has placed immense strain on Gaza’s healthcare system. Ashraf al-Qudra, a spokesperson for Gaza’s health ministry, highlighted the devastating impact on hospitals and warned of severe repercussions. The hospitals, which should be protected under international humanitarian law, have faced repeated strikes since the war began.
Winter rains have aggravated the humanitarian crisis, displacing nearly 85 percent of Gaza’s population of 1.9 million. Many have sought refuge in southern areas like Rafah and Khan Younis, with stories of families living in dire conditions in makeshift shelters.
The conflict has also impacted Israel, particularly concerning hostages held in Gaza. Palestinian militants captured about 250 hostages on October 7, with Israel confirming that 132 remain, including at least 25 believed to be deceased.
