Elon Musk has pledged to cover the legal expenses of users who face unfair treatment from their employers due to their activities on his social media platform. Mr. Musk announced on Sunday that X would provide financial assistance without any limits to those who experience discrimination for their posts or likes on the platform.
Formerly known as Twitter, the social media platform underwent a name change last month under Musk’s leadership. As a self-proclaimed “free speech absolutist,” Musk has been critical of the platform’s content moderation policies since he took control.
In April of the previous year, when he announced his takeover of Twitter, Musk emphasized the importance of free speech in a functioning democracy. He described Twitter as the “digital town square” where crucial discussions concerning humanity’s future take place.
Recently, Twitter’s parent company filed a lawsuit against the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), an anti-hate organization that had conducted research criticizing the platform. The CCDH’s research had exposed the rapid spread of hate speech and disinformation on the platform since Musk assumed ownership.
X Corp accused the CCDH of engaging in “unlawful acts” to gain unauthorized access to its data.
Despite controversies surrounding content moderation on the platform, Elon Musk remains committed to upholding free speech and ensuring that individuals are not penalized unfairly for their online activities.
