The crash occurred over the town of Karystos on the island of Evia near Athens and was captured on state television. As the wildfire crisis intensifies, more than 50 blazes are spreading across the country, prompting concerns and responses from various authorities.
In the midst of the wildfires, thousands of Britons have been evacuated from Rhodes, with new estimates suggesting that around 10% of the Greek island has been ravaged by the flames. The soaring temperatures, exceeding 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit), have added to the challenging conditions.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has described the situation as a “war” and is focused on tackling the ongoing fires. Greece is receiving international assistance, with the EU and other countries, including Turkey, Israel, and Egypt, offering support.
