Manchester United have officially announced the signing of the esteemed Cameroonian goalkeeper, Andre Onana, from Inter. Onana penned a five-year contract with the Red Devils, with an option to extend the collaboration for another season.
United’s leadership confirmed the news through their official Twitter account, expressing their delight in having Onana join one of the world’s biggest football clubs. The Cameroonian goalkeeper himself conveyed his joy and honor at becoming a part of Manchester United, a moment he has worked tirelessly for and overcome numerous challenges to achieve.
“Coming to Manchester United is an incredible honor. I’ve worked hard all my life to experience this moment, and I’ve jumped over many hurdles. Going out to Old Trafford and defending our team’s goal will be another incredible experience,” stated Onana.
Adding to his excitement, Onana expressed his satisfaction in reuniting with Erik ten Haag, whom he previously worked with at Ajax. He sees this move as a fresh start and aims to leave a lasting legacy at Manchester United, following in the footsteps of the club’s legendary goalkeepers.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper leaves Inter after just one season, and the Nerazzurri earned over 50 million euros in this deal. Onana’s European adventure began in the youth ranks of Barcelona, but he made a name for himself during his time at Ajax, where he played under Erik ten Haag. His spell at Ajax saw him make 214 appearances and win three Eredivisie titles.
At the international level, Onana has represented Cameroon with pride, making 34 appearances for the national team from 2016 to 2022.
As for the details of his contract with Manchester United, they remain undisclosed for now.
The Red Devils will commence their season with a match against Wolves on August 14th, starting at 9:00 pm. Fans eagerly anticipate seeing Andre Onana guard the Manchester United goal and contribute to the team’s success.
