The legendary Spanish football player Luis Suarez passed away yesterday at the age of 88. He was a true great of Barcelona and Inter and the first Spanish recipient of the Ballon d’Or.

The football world bids farewell to the legendary Spanish player Luis Suarez Miramontes, who sadly passed away today at the age of 88. Remembered as one of the greatest Spanish footballers and the first Ballon d’Or winner from Spain, Suarez will forever hold a special place in our hearts. He excelled as an offensive midfielder throughout his career.

Suarez began his journey with Deportivo La Coruna before joining the prestigious Barcelona from 1955 to 1961. During his time with Barca, he clinched two Spanish championship titles and was honored with the title of the world’s best football player in 1960. With 176 appearances and 80 goals for the Catalan club, his contributions were exceptional.

Later, Suarez moved to Inter in what was then the most expensive transfer ever, earning 250 million lira (approximately 150,000 euros). His nine-year tenure at Inter alongside Giuseppe Meazza solidified his status as a legend. Together, they led Inter to three Serie A titles and two European Champions trophies, earning the team the nickname “Great Inter.” Suarez amassed 328 appearances and scored 55 goals during his time with the Nerazzurri.

After his playing career, Suarez continued his involvement in football by coaching various teams. He guided Inter, Deportivo, and several Italian lower league teams, and even served as the coach of the Spanish national youth team for eight years. Additionally, from 1988 to 1991, he managed the top Spanish team.

Luis Suarez’s final playing days were spent at Sampdoria before his retirement. His contributions to the sport as a player and coach will always be cherished and remembered. The football world mourns the loss of a true legend.
