Scarborough Athletic coach talks about his tattoo of manager
A BBC Breakfast reporter couldn’t keep a straight face during an interview with a man sporting a unique tattoo.
On the Saturday morning episode (November 2), Mike Bushell travelled to Scarborough for a feature on the town’s football team Scarborough Athletic, and the dedicated individuals behind it.
In his piece, he spoke with former Champions League winner Jonathan Greening. The ex-Manchester United and West Bromwich player, who now manages Scarborough Athletic, discussed his transition to non-league football, particularly poignant given his past as a ball boy at the town’s former club.
“I used to go and watch the old club at the McCain stadium with my brothers and my dad… and used to be ball boy there,” he reminisced. “Obviously it hit hard times and it’s so nice to be back at this football club.”

During the segment, another key figure from the management team, Coach Jimmy Beadle, made an appearance, reports the Express.
“Jonny, one other thing,” Mike queried the club’s manager. “To be part of your management team, do you have to have a tattoo of you on your arm?”.
With a smile, Jonathan responded: “You do yeah, it’s part of the process” as the camera shifted to reveal Coach Jimmy’s lower arm, adorned with the footballer’s likeness and the inscription ‘Jono Greening is my mate’.
“This is Coach Jimmy who has got a tattoo, look… of Jonny,” Mike announced, his laughter breaking through as Jonathan added: “Good looking chap there, right there.”
Coach Jimmy proudly showed off his tattoo, which pays homage to the old Scarborough club grounds and gates, symbolising his personal milestones with the club where he scored both the last goal at their former ground and the first for the new club.
“I’ve got the tattoo of the old gates, the old stadium there on that other arm as well,” Coach Jimmy shared. “Yes, it’s something I’m proud of really.”
“Not bad for a fat lad having that little milestone for the club.”
