A mum came up with a clever way to prevent scratching her vehicle – or someone else’s – when climbing out of her car with her little one. It’s particularly handy when you’re in a tight parking space
Parking in a cramped spot without nudging the cars next to you can be quite the challenge, especially with limited space to squeeze out and get on with your errands. But fear not – as there’s a clever strategy to keep those car doors scratch-free.
A viral video, which has racked up more than 15,000 likes, shows a handy tip from a mum named Kelly for avoiding scuffs between parked cars. Sharing her wisdom, she divulged: “If you’re ever parked too close to a car next to you, you need this hack in your life.” The savvy Australian mum demonstrated how to tackle the dilemma when she found herself parked too snugly beside another person’s motor, making it tough to get her little one out without bumping against anything.
Her solution? Whip out a nappy and tactfully place it where it could prevent any unwanted contact between her door and the neighbouring vehicle.

She added: “When I want to get my baby out the car, I use a nappy. The door does not scratch the car next to you, and the car next to you does not put paint on yours. Now I can get him out.”
The cost of a single nappy comes in at around 14p – and you can keep one in your car to reuse any time the problem arises. If you don’t have any little ones and aren’t keen on buying a whole box of nappies, there’s no need to worry.
Alternatively, an old clothing item can get the job done just as well. Kelly added: “I use a nappy, you can use a sock”.
Since the video was posted, many have found the advice helpful. One user said: “I usually use my hand and my husband gets him but this is less painful.”
Another added: “That’s so smart, never thought of that.” Meanwhile, a third commented: “Can you tell everyone in my town this hack please, my car is full of door scratches.”
