The pub hotspots for England and Wales have been revealed, with areas ranked for the number of pubs for both per 100,000 people and per square mile. Statistics from the Office for National Statistics have been analysed for England and Wales, with Liverpool unable to reach the top 30 for one of the rankings.
People in the Derbyshire Dales were better stocked with pubs than anywhere in the country, working out as 184.5 pubs per 100,000 people. The rural district has 132 pubs within its borders according to the ONS access to local amenities report.
That’s the highest rate for any local authority in England and Wales, excluding two areas where extremely low population numbers skew the figures – the City of London (80 pubs, equivalent to 594.3 per 100,000) and the Isles of Scilly (six pubs, equivalent to 269.2 per 100,000).
All of Merseyside’s local authorities failed to reach the top 30. Liverpool had 69.7 pubs per 100k people, Sefton had 43.9, Wirral had 51.1, Knowsley had 30.1 and St Helens had 67.2. When it came to per square mile, London councils filled the top 10 of the rankings.
