Prominent TV presenter, Holly Willoughby, has declared her departure from ITV’s daytime show, ‘This Morning’, after a 14-year stint, citing personal reasons related to her and her family.
While Willoughby had been noticeably absent from the show since the previous week, following the unsettling news of a man being charged over an alleged kidnap plot targeting her, her decision to leave did not specifically address this incident in the statement released on Tuesday.
Reflecting on her time with the show, she remarked, “It’s been an honour to be part of its story. Although there are many chapters left in the show’s journey, I feel the need to make this decision for the well-being of my family.” Expressing her emotions, she added, “I will deeply miss you all.”
This announcement follows a scandal five months prior, where Phillip Schofield, her former co-host, exited the show after confessing to misleading superiors about an affair with a younger team member.
In her heartfelt message, Willoughby conveyed her gratitude to the entire ‘This Morning’ team, stating, “This farewell is incredibly challenging. I am forever proud of our collective accomplishments.” She further extended her appreciation to the ITV team, the show’s guests, and especially the dedicated viewers, for their unwavering support over the years.
Kevin Lygo, ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment, responded to her departure by saying, “Although we’re saddened by Holly’s decision to leave ‘This Morning’, we respect her choice. Holly stands as one of the UK’s most cherished, skilled, and successful broadcasters. Her 14-year tenure brought an unparalleled blend of warmth, vitality, humour, and joy to our audience. While her presence will be deeply missed, she continues to be a cherished member of the ITV family.”
