Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) on Tuesday expressed hope that the UK would support Taiwan’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) during a luncheon to welcome a delegation of British-Taiwanese All-Party Parliamentary Group members led by British House of Lords Deputy Speaker Dennis Rogan.
Lin hosted the luncheon to thank the members of the British parliament for supporting Taiwan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said.
Rogan, who has visited Taiwan several times, is a staunch friend of Taiwan in the British parliament and has long been dedicated to building a strong base of support for Taiwan there, the ministry said.

Lin thanked the British government for continuously emphasizing that peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are crucial to global security and prosperity, and for reaffirming that the Indo-Pacific and transatlantic regions are inextricably linked.
He expressed his gratitude for the cross-party group’s firm support for Taiwan, including their consistent support for Taiwan’s meaningful and practical participation in international organizations, it said.
Last year, Taiwan and the UK signed three pillar arrangements under the Taiwan-UK Enhanced Trade Partnership, covering investment, digital trade and energy and net zero issues, which are expected to broaden bilateral economic and trade cooperation, Lin said.
Member of the British House of Lords Byron Davies said that members of the delegation are delighted to see the close and friendly bilateral relationship between Taiwan and the UK growing.
He said they look forward to gaining a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s various developments during this trip, as well as the continued deepening of Taiwan-UK partnership across all sectors.
The delegation plans to meet with President William Lai (賴清德), National Security Council Secretary-General Joseph Wu (吳釗燮), Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜), and visit the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Executive Yuan’s Office of Trade Negotiations and the International Trade Administration, MOFA said.
They are also scheduled to visit the Prospect Foundation, Taiwan Network Information Center, the Westminster Foundation for Democracy and Doublethink Lab, as well as Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute and the AI on Chip Taiwan Alliance in Hsinchu, it said.
