Iran’s military has vowed to target infrastructure used by the US and its allies after a bridge hit by strikes in an Iranian city hours before Trump’s deadline.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards warned neighbouring countries ‘restraint is over’ and has pledged to disrupt the regional oil and gas supplies ‘for years’ after the US-Israeli attacks were launched on a bridge near the Iranian city of Qom, south of Tehran, on Tuesday afternoon.
It added that soldiers will respond beyond the region if the US ‘crosses red lines.’

According to Iranian state TV, deputy governor of the province, Morteza Heydari, said: ‘A few minutes ago, one of the bridges on Qom’s communication lines, outside the city of Qom and in the west of the province, was attacked by American and Zionist enemy projectiles.’
Moments afterwards, a second strike hit a railway bridge in the Iranian city of Kashan, leaving two dead, the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency reported.
The warning and strikes came after Trump threatened to destroy Iran’s bridges and power plants if Iran did not reopen the Strait of Hormuz by 8pm eastern time tonight (1am BST on Wednesday)
Last night, Trump brushed off fears that the attacks could be classified a war crime.
‘I’m not worried about it,’ Trump said when asked how he would respond to those accusations. ‘You know the war crime? The war crime is allowing Iran to have a nuclear weapon.’

Trump held a press conference yesterday, where he finally spoke about the mission to rescue the F15 fighter jet crew who were shot down in Iran (Picture: Anadolu/Getty Images)
Asked again about the issue, he said Iran’s leaders were ‘animals’ who had killed tens of thousands of protesters.
Trump also said that if it were up to him, he would seize Iran’s oil, but that ‘unfortunately, the American people would like to see us come home’ and end the war.
‘I’d keep the oil, and I would make plenty of money,’ Trump said.
The US president added that Americans who opposed the Iran war were ‘foolish.’
‘Because the war is about one thing. Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon,’ Trump said.

Earlier in the day, the White House confirmed there was a deal under consideration for a 45-day ceasefire with Iran, but that Trump had ‘not signed off’ on the proposal and is continuing the war.
‘This is one of many ideas, and POTUS (Trump) has not signed off on it. Operation Epic Fury continues,’ a White House official said.
Iran has reportedly rejected the US proposal and put forward an alternative, which is supported by several other countries, the country’s state-run media said.
The proposal is seen as a last-minute attempt to deter the possible attacks on Iranian civilian infrastructure that Trump has threatened.

The UK is set to host a meeting of allied military officers to discuss plans to secure the Strait of Hormuz as Trump’s deadline looms. Britain’s military planners will gather at Northwood outside London today and will focus on how to make the vital passage safe for shipping again.
According to the i paper, the UK would not allow US war planes to leave from British bases to attack civilian infrastructure if Trump’s threats were to play out tonight.

The US is only permitted to use the bases for operations aimed at hitting Iran’s capability to endanger the UK’s interests or those of its allies, and such attacks would not fall within the definition.
Yesterday, Iran confirmed that its top intelligence official, Major General Majid Khademi, an intelligence chief at the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was killed in airstrikes by the US and Israel, which the regime vowed to revenge.
On Sunday, Trump issued an expletive-riddled rant on Truth Social, telling Iran to ‘open the f***in Strait, you crazy b******s’ or they will be ‘living in hell.’
