Democrats had another strong electoral showing Tuesday night in the battleground states of Wisconsin and Georgia in what Politico described as “one of their best election nights since President Donald Trump returned to the White House” – a showing that sparked panic among some GOP-aligned operatives as the midterm elections fast approach. In Wisconsin, which Trump carried in 2024 by tens of thousands of votes, the Democratic-backed candidate in the state Supreme Court race, Chris Taylor, won with a near 20-point margin. Alicia Halvensleben, another Democrat, won a Wisconsin mayoral race in a Republican-leaning suburb, and in Georgia, Democratic congressional candidate Shawn Harris lost in a special election runoff, but cut into Trump’s margins of victory by 25 points.Politico spoke to a GOP strategist about the Wisconsin Supreme Court race, who, speaking on the condition of anonymity, lashed out at Republicans involved in the contest for handing Democrats yet another victory.“Everyone involved should be doxxed, tarred and feathered and run out of Wisconsin politics,” the strategist said, dismissing the notion that the victory bodes well for Democrats in the upcoming midterms. “The electorate is so different now. GOP voters don’t show up for spring [elections] like they used to.”Brandon Scholz, formerly a GOP strategist before leaving the party in 2021, described Democrats’ latest electoral victory in Wisconsin as “a wow moment,” and told Politico that the election results did, in fact, signal trouble for Republicans going forward.“Republicans ought to be sitting down tonight and going, ‘Okay, we just screwed up another race. What are we going to do in November?’” Scholz told Politico.
