A journalist flagged the “cancer on the body politic” that the Republican Party refuses to deal with in a new podcast interview on Thursday. John Avlon, who has written extensively about political extremism, argued during a new episode of the podcast, “The Court of History,” that the Republicans seem to be refusing to acknowledge the growing antisemitism within their party. He described it as a “cancer on the body politic” that will need to be addressed one way or another. “Antisemitism is growing on the far left and the far right,” Avlon said. “We’ve crossed what used to be the bright red line in politics, and Republicans want to deny it, not deal with it. But it’s going to need to be dealt with one way or the other.”Avlon noted that Republicans appear to be speaking out of both sides of their mouth on the issue. He said Republicans are simultaneously trying to rally support for Israel while incubating an anti-Semitic coalition within the party itself. Avlon said both of those aims are “untenable.””It’s more about what it says for the country as well as the Republican party,” Avlon said.
