North West Ambulance declared a “major incident” before stepping down
Paramedics attended to 21 people following a massive fire at a care home in Blackpool, which prompted NHS officials to declare a major incident. Emergency crews arrived at the Queen’s Promenade at 8.14pm this evening.
The North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) deployed seven ambulances, four Hazardous Area Response Teams, three officers, an advanced paramedic and a doctor to the scene, while five fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were deployed to fight the flames, reports Lancs Live.
In a subsequent update, NWAS confirmed: “We can now confirm that NWAS has now been stood down from the fire at the care home in Bispham, Blackpool, and we are no longer at major incident.
“The trust has been dealing with the incident with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (Official) and Lancashire Police since 8.22pm.
“NWAS has treated 21 people on scene and two residents have been taken to Blackpool Victoria hospital by ambulance. We wish them all a speedy recovery.”
“We dispatched seven ambulances, four Hazardous Area Response Teams, three officers, an advanced paramedic, and a doctor to the scene. We would like to thank all the emergency services involved in responding to this incident.”
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service released the following statement: “At 20:14 on the 1st April, five fire engines and an aerial ladder platform and several vehicles from North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust and Lancashire Police in attendance at a commercial property fire on Queens Promenade, Blackpool.
“Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used several hose reels to extinguish the fire
“At 22:00, this incident has now been reduced to one fire engine and multiple appliances from emergency services. There is still a section of Queens Promenade and local road closures in place.
“We would like to thank our partner agencies and the local public for their support, co-operation and understanding during this on-going incident.”
