Mystery after everything removed from TV star’s first Liverpool store

2026 was supposed to see the space still be used by the TV star but this hasn’t been the case

Four months on from when hundreds queued for a TV star’s first Liverpool store, its signage and furniture have now been removed. TikTok star Made by Mitchell had been teasing his millions of followers about his newest venture for months.

Come Saturday, November 15, the wait was finally over much to the delight of all his followers. The 26-year-old, who appeared on BBC‘s Glow-Up, had officially opened the doors to his Liverpool shop inside The Metquarter, a move he previously told the ECHO “only felt right”.

However, fast forward to December, and The Cat in the Hat inspired pop-up shop had run its course and shut. Posting a video to TikTok captioned ‘I’m closing my first ever store…let’s talk about it’, he said: “I’m actually quite sad because I have had the best few weeks.

“Being in the store the last six or seven weeks from start to finish, I’ve learnt so much about how you guys want to shop, the products you want to buy, and the things you think are missing. I will be forever grateful for this experience of having our own shop.

“The shop will still be there, so it might still look like we are operating a shop. However, things are changing in the new year. The space is going to be used for more intimate experiences like masterclasses, one-to-ones and makeup appointments.

“When we do launch our big collections, which is usually at the end of every month, we will then open our doors again and then you can come and shop.”

Mitchell founded his brand in 2020, and it wasn’t long before he took the industry by storm. In just one day, mainly thanks to his TikTok shop, the business made £1m.

In a separate, week-long campaign, the brand made £2m. The beauty guru’s cosmetics company, renowned for its Blursh Balm and Curve Case, is loved by many due to its distinctive and colourful appearances.

However, since closing back in December, the space has yet to be used again for any “intimate experiences”, with the Made by Mitchell logo now being removed and the inside decor being taken out. The only remaining indicator is the brand’s signature green.

The Liverpool ECHO reached out to the Made by Mitchell team and the Metquarter for further information.

On the initial opening date, queues gathered inside the shopping complex and out the side of it, with several in line telling the ECHO they had been there since 5am. On the day, Mitchell said: “Made by Mitchell was born in Liverpool, so it only felt right we started our store journey here. The store is inspired by Cat in the Hat as a young boy.

“I feel like it was all about colours you wouldn’t normally see together. I love green, and a lot of people love pink, they go so well together. Even look at Wicked at the moment.

“It has always been our brand colours but I just wanted you to feel like you walked into something that wasn’t on this planet coming in here. I think we’ve done a good job.

“People ask me ‘why Liverpool?’ It’s where Made By Mitchell was born, where I built the tea and where I did my first ever masterclass at the beginning of my career.

“I’ve always said I was a Scouser in my past life — I love the glam, I love the community. It’s the home of Made By Mitchell. And the Metquarter is a full circle moment as I used to shop in the MAC store there in my early days.”
