Katie and Harrison’s interaction with a taxi driver had fans in stitches
Race Across the World viewers were in stitches after a hilarious moment during the first episode. The show returned with five new groups who embarked on the first leg of their journey from Italy to Mongolia. They were provided with £1,297, which works out at £23.16 each per day, to make their own way to the final checkpoint.
Over the next nine weeks, viewers will be invested into each group’s journey to see who will take home the £20,000 prize. This year’s contestants include Scouse best friends Kush and Jo, brother and sister from Manchester Katie and Harrison, dad and daughter Andrew and Molly from Northern Ireland, cousins Puja and Roshni from London and in-laws Mark, from London and the third Liverpudlian on the series, Margo.
But it was something Katie said which had fans in stitches. It wasn’t long before fans fell in love with the brother and sister partnership during the first episode, who were struggling to manage the tight budget.
In their journey towards the first checkpoint, Harrison and Katie were contemplating paying for a taxi in order to make it to Kyllini in Greece in time to catch the ferry.
When the taxi driver offered them a price of 90 Euros, they decided it was a deal.
As they got into the car, Katie complimented the air conditioning before telling the driver: “Your English is very good”.
The driver replied: “I’m Australian.” Katie laughed and said: “Ahh are you?”.
Fans were in stitches after the hilarious moment and took to social media shortly after the interaction.
On X, one viewer said: “Classic British line to taxi driver: ‘Your English is very good’ Taxi driver: ‘I’m Australian!’ [laughing face]”
Another added: “Telling the Aussie his English is good!”, while several other viewers added laughing face emojis to the conversation on X.
Harrison, 23 and Katie, 21 had previously shared with the BBC how they prepared for their trip, and it couldn’t be anymore different.
Harrison’s response was thorough and thought-out as he said: “I plan so much – everything about my life is planned out. Although this experience is about planning, it’s very much one leg at a time or one journey at a time, so I’ve not really wanted to plan too much.
“It’s just so different to what my normal life is. You can’t learn every language, can you? It’s so difficult to plan when you don’t know what you’re planning for.”
Meanwhile, Katie said: “I got a lash lift, and I got my hair done, so haven’t prepared basically.”
Race Across the World airs Thursdays at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer
