President Donald Trump is set to address the nation on Wednesday night after he threatened to send Iran “into the Stone Age”.Announcing the move on social media, White House press chief Karoline Leavitt said the President would “provide an important update on Iran.”The address is scheduled to take place at 9pm ET on April 1 (2am BST on April 2). Speaking to NBC News, the President insisted the US was “doing great” in its war against the Islamic Republic. Mr Trump then told reporters at the White House on Tuesday that Tehran does not have to strike a deal with the US to bring the conflict to a close. He said: “When we feel that they are… put into the Stone Age and won’t be able to come up with a nuclear weapon, then we’ll leave whether we have a deal or not.”The President said he believes US military operations will come to end within “maybe two weeks, maybe a couple of days longer”.He also said regime change inside the country had taken place following the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.“Now we have a group of people that’s very – that are very different, they’re much more reasonable,” he added. Despite Mr Trump’s assertion that Tehran was “begging for a deal”, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei claimed no such talks had taken place. He said: “We have had no negotiations with America in these 31 days [of the conflict].DONALD TRUMP – READ THE LATEST:Donald Trump left shocked after top ally’s husband ‘caught cross-dressing in major security risk’Harry refuses DC reunion as King to meet Donald Trump in USDonald Trump appears to reveal exact date of King’s US visit despite attempts to keep it under wraps“What has occurred is the submission of a negotiation request, accompanied by a set of proposals from America, which has reached us through certain intermediaries, including Pakistan.”Mr Baqaei added that the Islamic Republic “knows full well how to subdue its enemies with its own will”.Despite the President signalling the US may be on the verge of de-escalating, thousands of additional American troops have been deployed to the Middle East over the past week. On Tuesday, the USS George HW Bush was deployed to the region alongside three destroyers, two American officials said. The carrier strike group is believed to be carrying around 6,000 sailors. The deployment of additional forces to the region – over 10,000 more than usual – comes after Secretary of War Pete Hegseth refused to rule out a ground invasion of Iran. He said on Tuesday: “You can’t fight and win a war if you tell your adversary what you are willing to do or what you are not willing to do to include boots on the ground.“Our adversary right now thinks there are 15 different ways we could come at them with boots on the ground. And guess what? There are.”Our Standards:
