Steven Lyons, 45, one of Scotland’s most notorious gangland figures, is set to be deported to Spain following his arrest at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on Saturday.

Indonesian authorities said Lyons, who arrived on a flight from Singapore, is wanted in Spain over organised crime, drug trafficking, money laundering, and a murder case from 2024.Lyons, reportedly the head of a transnational criminal organisation operating across Europe and the Middle East, was taken into custody after immigration officers intercepted him. He is alleged to have used shell companies for laundering funds in Spain, Scotland, England, Dubai, Qatar, Bahrain, and Turkey.Lyons’ wife, Amanda Lyons, was also arrested in Dubai over alleged offences in Spain, indicating authorities are targeting the inner circle of the crime syndicate.Bali police chief Daniel Adityajaya said Lyons was the leader of a “large-scale transnational criminal organisation involved in drug trafficking and money laundering.” The arrest follows coordinated raids across Scotland and Spain, carried out with Europol’s support, resulting in multiple arrests and asset seizures.

Lyons survived a 2006 shooting in Glasgow that killed his cousin and later relocated to Spain before settling in Dubai. He has ties with the Dubai-based Kinahan crime group and has been involved in a decades-long feud with rival Scottish gangs.Authorities in Bali continue to search for two of Lyons’ companions who arrived with him but remain at large on the island.
