President Donald Trump disclosed Thursday that Iran had gifted him eight fully laden oil tankers as a diplomatic goodwill gesture in ceasefire talks to end a war he launched nearly four weeks ago. The ships transited the Strait of Hormuz under a Pakistani flag. Trump first hinted at the gift two days earlier with a cryptic reference to a “present” from Tehran, made at the swearing-in of newly minted Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin.
