Everything you need to know as Coronation Street and Emmerdale will not air tonight:
- Coronation Street and Emmerdale will not air tonight due to a schedule shake-up on ITV. Two of the nations favourite soaps grace our screens every weeknight on ITV1 and ITVX. Viewers are used to tuning in to the drama in the Dales at 8pm, followed by even more chaos in Weatherfield at 8.30pm.
- Both soaps have been removed from their usual schedules due to coverage of the Six Nations on ITV1 tonight. The broadcast starts at 7.20pm ready for an 8.10pm kick-off time. ITV’s coverage of Ireland vs Wales, held at the Aviva Stadium, means that both soaps have been removed from the schedule on Friday, March 6.
- Fans are not best pleased by the cancellation, with many taking to social media to express their frustration. On X, one soap fan said: “I’m so irritated that the soaps keep getting cancelled for football.” A second said: “@ITV just put @emmerdale & @itvcorrie on @itvx when the football or rugby is on, not everyone watches sports.”
- Emmerdale and Corrie will return to screens on Monday evening at their usual times of 8pm and 8.30pm, with episodes dropping at 7am on ITVX.
- The change comes after a huge shake-up to the way viewers tune in to soaps, which ITV rebranded a “soap power hour” in 2026. ITV changed the usual viewing routine so both soaps would air in half-an-hour time slots every weeknight.
