Buyers on A Place in the Sun told Jasmine Harman “we’re Blues’ after they saw the red kitchen
A couple from Liverpool were shocked when they were offered a house with a red kitchen on A Place in the Sun. Jill and Ronnie, who are Everton fans, were hoping to find their forever home. The couple had always dreamt of moving to France. Presenter Jasmine Harman assisted the couple in their search for a property abroad.
Jill, who was previously a civil servant, explained to Jasmine she was recovering from a “mini stroke” and the couple were ready to start the next chapter in their lives. Her partner Ronnie was a retired firefighter and the couple first met 23 years ago.
After spending many years thinking about making the move to France, Jill and Ronnie decided now was the right time. They hoped their budget of £250,000 would secure a stunning property in the area of Languedoc-Roussillon.
They were excited to start a more laid back way-of-life. Speaking about the big move, Jill said: “We’re ready for it, we’ve spoke about it forever.”
Jasmine took the couple to several different options in surrounding areas, keen to meet Jill’s request of “old style but with a contemporary twist”.
The first property was a three-bedroom house with a pool. The couple fell in love with the property and its huge open-plan feel, telling Jasmine she had “set the bar quite high” and that it was a “strong contender”.
But as the search continued, one particular feature took the couple by surprise, and it was their reaction which shocked Jasmine.
As they walked into the kitchen, they were taken aback to see its colourful theme, as the room was filled with red walls and red dining chairs.
The couple announced they were Everton fans, telling Jasmine: “What have you done to us?”
Jill said: “What have you done to us? We can’t possibly have a red kitchen.” She added: “We’re from Liverpool but we’re Evertonians. The red has got to go, we’re Blues.”
Ronnie added: “That’s the first thing we would change.”
After moving past the red kitchen, they explored the rest of the house but Jill said it felt more like a “holiday home” than a permanent property.
In the end, Jill and Ronnie explained they hadn’t found their ideal property and they planned to continue their search.
