A Liverpool city centre pub’s patrons were broadcast out across the world
A Liverpool city centre pub has made international news for its lively atmosphere and carefree singers. Coopers Townhouse on Ranelagh Street was broadcast to Australian viewers via livestream as part of morning show Sunrise’s weekly “mystery location” segment.
Sunrise is an Australian breakfast programme on Seven Network, hosted by broadcasts Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington. The show is similar in concept to the UK’s This Morning on ITV.
Coopers Townhouse is famed for its louder than life patrons and karaoke, which draws thousands of viewers on social media. The pub has created starts from local people with viewers tuning in around the world to watch them perform on a daily basis.
Sunrise’s mystery location shined a light on Coopers with both Natalie and Matt enamoured by its eccentricity. Matt said: “This, Nat, is a bar where they say the floor is so sticky you could lose a shoe.
“We have popped in on Coopers bar in Liverpool and, let’s be honest, we have been watching this for about an hour and it’s not even 8pm local time and it is getting rowdy because of karaoke.”
Live footage from the evening of Thursday, March 5, was delivered to viewers across the world showing patrons singing and dancing. Matt went on to discuss how Coopers became famous for its karaoke that includes head-to-head battles and themed singing. sessions.
Natalie said: “I think they look pretty good. It’s obviously ‘bring your best leopard shirt day’ as well.” The Coopers crew issued the morning programme with a wave delivered via livestream which was then broadcast to Australian viewers at home.
Natalie asked whether the crowd knew who they were waving to, and Matt assumed they did not. After the segment was posted on the news site’s Instagram page, viewers called the footage “brilliant,” “amazing” and “best one ever.”
Coopers celebrated its 100th birthday last year with surprise guests and a massive party. Visitors packed out the venue for the celebrations as staff had to turn customers away at the door.
To mark the milestone birthday, a new plaque commemorating the pub’s legacy has been installed next to the original licensee plaque, commissioned by local artist Emma Rodgers. The plaque was unveiled by Coopers fan Jonny Bongo, founder of Bongo’s Bingo.
