Coronation Street spoilers have confirmed Mal Roper’s future on the cobbles and it’s bad news

Next week’s Coronation Street spoilers reveal a more alarming twist in the Mal Roper storyline following Thursday’s episode.

Audiences will recall that Mal, played by Tim Treloar, first made his appearance earlier this year when he crossed paths with Bernie Winter at the Chariot Square Hotel.

Mal had come to the cobbles to confront Roy Cropper, under the impression that he’d been having an affair with his wife Alice – a claim which Roy denied, clarifying they were pen pals and she’d never disclosed being married.

Heading to the Chariot Square Hotel to drown his sorrows, Mal bumped into a tipsy Bernie, who was also seeking solace in alcohol after the death of her son-in-law Billy Mayhew earlier this year. Bernie was devastated over losing her son-in-law so soon after her son Paul Foreman, who passed away in 2024.

The duo spent the night together drinking and taking drugs in Mal’s room, where he tried to make a move but Bernie rebuffed him. Since then, Mal has developed an obsession with Bernie, trying to find work in Weatherfield and at Roy’s Rolls café to stay close to her, reports the Daily Star.

As things escalated, Bernie’s son, police detective Kit Green, attacked him to protect his mother. In recent scenes, Mal, who recently woke up in hospital, has intensified his vendetta against the family.

Earlier this week, Mal falsely accused Bernie’s husband, Dev Alahan, of attacking him, telling the police he was the culprit. Dev faced questioning over the assault on Mal, while a distressed Bernie revealed to daughter Gemma Winter that it was Kit who attacked Mal and it appears the only way she can protect her husband is by betraying her own son.

In a twisted turn, Bernie was left appalled by a shocking demand from Mal as he said he’d drop the charges against Dev if she spent one night with him at the hotel.

On Thursday’s episode, Ryan Connor observed Bernie with concern as she made her way down a corridor at the Chariot Square Hotel, knocking on Mal’s hotel room door.

Declaring that simply being in the same space as her means the world to him, Mal gestured to the bed for Bernie to join him. However, Bernie managed to keep Mal distracted before he turned aggressive and thankfully Ryan arrived just in time to save her.

After telling her to call the police, Bernie demanded that Mal leave her alone and drop the charges against Dev to which he appeared to agree.

However, in spoilers next week, Bernie’s nightmare is far from over as Mal shows up again, dropping a bombshell on Dev. Turning to Bernie, Mal tells her that once Dev has dumped her, he’ll be waiting in the wings, leaving Dev stunned.

Later in the week, Dev makes it clear to Kit that he knows he attacked Mal. As the week concludes, Dev tells Bernie he’d like to take her for dinner and forget about Mal, leaving her delighted. However, as Dev and Bernie prepare for a night out, Mal observes them from the shadows… what is he scheming?

Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
