The “funniest British comedy” has been confirmed for an epic BBC reboot, and it’s arriving very soon.
Twenty Twenty Six is a highly-anticipated sitcom featuring Hugh Bonneville and Hugh Skinner, with narration provided by David Tennant. The mockumentary serves as a follow-up to both Twenty Twelve and W1A, which satirised the senior management of the BBC.
Twenty Twelve featured Bonneville portraying Ian Fletcher in the run-up to the 2012 Summer Olympics, with the forthcoming series marking his return. Fleabag’s Hugh Skinner will reprise his role as Ian’s personal assistant Will Humphries.
“Next year’s football tournament will be the biggest ever. Hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico with 48 countries taking part and 16 venues thousands of miles apart across the whole of North America; what could possibly go wrong? Ian Fletcher is about to find out, as he joins the Twenty Twenty Six Oversight Team in Miami as its Director of Integrity,” the programme’s official synopsis states, reports the Express.

Across two series of W1A, Will progressed from hapless intern to the lofty position of Ian’s PA. Will is now back, as enthusiastic as ever to personally support Ian in delivering a flawless football competition.
Joining the series’ impressive line-up of previously announced cast members are Marli Siu, Nicole Sadie Sawyerr, Joe Hewetson, and Erin Kellyman.
Following its announcement in June last year, numerous fans have been questioning when Ian and his team will return to screens. It has now been revealed that Twenty Twenty Six will debut at 10pm on BBC Two on Wednesday, April 8.
Hugh Bonneville shared the news via a post on his Instagram account, with the caption stating: “A major international tournament is approaching. In an office somewhere in Miami is Ian Fletcher, a ball and quite possibly a plan.”
Supporters swiftly flooded the comments section to express their enthusiasm, with one person writing: “This will be so much better than the actual football.” Another added: “My absolute favourite,” while a third said: “This is going to be just awesome!” A fourth person echoed the sentiment, saying: “The funniest show ever!”
Audiences have continued to heap praise on the forthcoming sitcom’s predecessors, particularly W1A, which broadcast from 2014 to 2017. An IMDb user wrote: “Hidden gem that’s actually better than The IT Crowd. It’s great that the BBC makes limited episodes of these shows. Very funny and light. Great characters and very well narrated.”
Another added: “I watched all three seasons in just a few days. This is one of the funniest British comedies I’ve seen in a very long time. So many British-isms and the ridiculous things that happen in all corporate offices! There is a cracking cast and with David Tennant narrating too.”
A third viewer commented: “Exquisitely funny and too true. Bonneville and [Jason] Watkins are brilliant in this wonderful parody of BBC’s internal workings and all its shenanigans,” while another similarly expressed: “A hilarious skewering of both the BBC and the mindset of corporate lackeys everywhere. Absolutely crammed with great characters, many of whom, in the British manner, have their distinctive and increasingly wonderful catchphrases.”
Another fan echoed these sentiments, stating: “Such a great series I watched it twice. Wonderfully acted and written, the single word interplay between the characters is a marvel. The discipline and skill to pull off the rapid-fire exchanges is something to behold.”
Twenty Twenty Six will premiere at 10pm on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer on Wednesday, April 8
