Air travel continues to be disrupted by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, with multiple flights from Manchester Airport being delayed or cancelled today. Although the disruption is not as severe as it was at the start of the war, a number of airlines are continuing to offer limited services.
Globally, a total of 869 flights were cancelled yesterday, according to data from FlightAware. As of today, 372 flights have been cancelled.
Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar Airways, the three largest carriers in the Middle East, are currently operating limited commercial flights from their bases in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha. These cities are typically significant international travel hubs, particularly for passengers connecting between Europe, the Far East, and Australia.
Flights between Manchester Airport and the Middle East are still being operated by Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar on a limited schedule. However, Gulf Air’s flights to and from Bahrain remain cancelled because of persistent airspace closures.
In a statement on its website, Gulf Air said: “Due to the closure of airspace in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the region, Gulf Air flight operations remain temporarily suspended. The airline will resume services once the Bahrain Civil Aviation Affairs confirms the safe reopening of the affected airspace.
“Gulf Air will be operating limited return flights between King Fahad International Airport in Dammam and Bangkok, London and Mumbai.”
Flight GF5 which was scheduled to arrive at Manchester this morning at 6.35am has been cancelled. The only flights to have been cancelled from Manchester Airport today (March 21) are a Gulf Air flight to Bahrain and a Qatar Airways flight to Doha.
