Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has announced the BBC’s decade-long Charter renewal process will be abolished, confirming the next Charter will be permanent.Speaking at the Society of Editors conference in London on March 17, Ms Nandy described the current system as “bizarre” and said it fails to address long-term questions about the broadcaster’s future.”For far too long we have ducked the big questions around the future of the BBC, whether it comes to the length of the Charter or to how you sustainably fund the BBC.”She added: “We can’t continue to duck those big and essential questions and so this Charter will be the last of its kind.”
