GENEVA — Saudi Arabia, on behalf of the Arab Group, conveyed its strongest condemnation of the Iranian attacks directed against the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and Jordan. “Saudi Arabia underscored that these attacks represent a serious violation of international law, a flagrant breach of the Charter of the United Nations, and a direct affront to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the states concerned,” said Ambassador Abdulmohsen bin Majid bin Khuthaila, Saudi Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva. He made the remarks while attending, on behalf of the Arab Group, the general debate at the 61st session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva on Monday. In his address, Ambassador Abdulmohsen affirmed that the targeting of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Jordan constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights law, and poses a serious threat to regional stability as well as to international peace and security. The ambassador emphasized that these attacks occurred at a time when Arab states are intensifying diplomatic efforts to mediate disputes, de-escalate tensions, and advance political solutions and dialogue. “This escalation is unjustifiable and detrimental to endeavors aimed at achieving security and stability,” he added.
