Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard discussing Arsenal (Picture: TNT Sports)
Steven Gerrard has urged Mikel Arteta to replace two Arsenal players this summer.
The Gunners are on the verge of a historic season despite their Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City.
Arsenal were hoping to win their first major trophy since 2020 at Wembley on Sunday but fell short, losing 2-0 to Pep Guardiola’s side.
That defeat ended Arsenal’s unlikely quadruple bid but Mikel Arteta’s team are still in contention of winning three trophies.
Arsenal boast a nine-point lead over second-placed Manchester City with seven games remaining and are in quarter-final action in both the Champions League and FA Cup after the international break.
While competing for multiple trophies, Arteta will also have on eye on the summer transfer window and the chance to strengthen his already talented and deep squad.
Liverpool legend and ex-England midfielder Gerrard expects Arsenal to sign a new left-sided forward this summer, insisting that is an area Arteta can make the squad even ‘better’.

Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have mainly shared responsibility on the left-flank this season but the Brazilian has only scored once in the Premier League, while Trossard is often flattered to deceive.
‘I think Arsenal will potentially go for a player on the left,’ Gerrard told TNT Sports.
‘I don’t think Gabriel Martinelli has been as good as he was previously maybe and Leandro Trossard is a good player but that is an area they might look at in terms of how to get the team and squad better.’

Ally McCoist also expects Arteta to ‘strengthen’ his Arsenal squad in the summer but says the level of investment will depend on ‘how the rest of the season pans out’.
Asked whether Arsenal will be targeting another big summer in the transfer market or be content with what they have, McCoist said: ‘It depends on how the rest of the season pans out.
‘You always look to bring players in and strengthen your squad and that will be the case and I think Arsenal will look to strengthen.
‘But a lot of it will be determined by how the season goes and even what happens to the manager as well because the pressure on Arsenal is absolutely immense.
‘I do think they will get over the line and they’ve needed this squad which I think is the strongest, they have two players for every position.’
Arsenal face Championship side Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals in their first game back after the international break.
Arteta’s side then start their Champions League quarter-final tie against Sporting before returning to Premier League action against Bournemouth.
