Former England boss Fabio Capello has given a brutal assessment of Liam Rosenior – insisting the Chelsea head coach is ‘out of his mind’ with his players ‘laughing’ at his methods.
Rosenior took the reins at Stamford Bridge in January after the departure of Enzo Maresca. Up until last week, Chelsea’s only defeats in that time have come against Arsenal in the Premier League and Carabao Cup.
The last seven days have been hugely damaging for the Blues boss however, capitulating away to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16 last week.
After a meek defeat at home to Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday, the French champions finished the job in brutal fashion last night, progressing to the quarter-finals thanks to an 8-2 aggregate victory in west London.
With just minutes of last night’s second leg remaining, Rosenior was spotted furiously scribbling notes and handing them to Alejandro Garnacho to pass onto his teammates.
Former England boss and Italian football legend Capello was one of the many left watching on in utter bemusement.
‘He’s out of his mind,’ said Capello, Football Italia report.

‘He did something that will make the players laugh. That’s what they think. You saw his [Garnacho’s] face when he entered the pitch with that note; he was like: “What are you saying to me?”
‘When you do smart things, you are involved, but when you do something like that, how are you involving somebody?’
AC Milan legend Alessandro Costacurta also put the boot in, convinced Garnacho was left questioning his manager after the peculiar incident late on in the game.

‘I was a player, and if something like that had happened to me, I wouldn’t have seen it as a way to get the players on my side. It’s possible that there’s a new trend, but you can see the attitude from Garnacho’s face,’ he said.
Also on punditry duty, West Ham legend and former Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio believed the incident summed up a new generation of coaches who ‘who to show they study until the end’.
‘Look at the way he entered the field. I was also a bit of a prude, but these new coaches are almost philosophers now,’ Di Canio said.
‘It seems like a joke, but it’s not. They strongly believe that even the attitude in the final minutes is important.
‘They believe in it. I see many who do the same thing despite losing 3-0. They want to show they study until the end; it’s the new generation. I understand it, but I’m like: “What are you doing?”’
