Taiwan won silver in the women’s 25-meter pistol team event in the rifle/pistol section of the Asian Shooting Championships in New Delhi, India, after Chen Yu-ju (陳俞如), Tien Chia-chen (田家榛) and Wu Chia-ying (吳佳穎) achieved a total of 1,735 points.

The gold medal in the women’s team event was won by India.

In the women’s 25-meter pistol individual final, Tien placed fifth, the best individual result among the Taiwanese shooters.

The Asian Rifle/Pistol Championships — part of the Asian Shooting Championships — began on Feb. 2, the women’s 25-meter pistol event opening with three rounds of slow fire held the previous day.

Four Taiwanese shooters — Chen, Tien, Wu and Cheng Yen-ching (鄭晏晴) — competed in the slow-fire stage, with Chen posting 291 points to rank fifth, the top Taiwanese performance at that stage.

The final three rounds were contested in rapid fire, during which Tien recorded the highest Taiwanese score with 295 points.

After slow-fire and rapid-fire scores were combined, Cheng ranked fifth in the qualification round, while Chen and Tien placed sixth and seventh respectively, and Wu was eliminated in 13th place.

Under competition rules that limit each country to three competitors in the women’s 25-meter pistol event, Taiwan selected Chen, Tien and Wu to compete in both the team and individual events.

As a result, Cheng competed as a Ranking Points Only (RPO) athlete, meaning her qualification score earned world ranking points but did not allow her to advance to the final or count toward official team results.

In the women’s individual final, Chen was eliminated after the sixth round and Tien after the seventh round, leaving both shooters outside the medal positions.

Taiwan’s team silver medal total consisted of 580 points from Chen, 579 from Tien and 576 from Wu across the combined slow-fire and rapid-fire stages.
