U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Wednesday questioning by the House Judiciary Committee — which comes amid heightened scrutiny over the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) handling of files pertaining to convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein — likely soured some of President Donald Trump’s MAGA base against his administration, according to a former spokesman for the Republican National Committee (RNC).In one particular incident, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) asked some of Epstein’s victims to stand, and asked Bondi to apologize to them for not meeting with them or pursuing cases against any of Epstein’s wealthy compatriots. However, Bondi did not even turn to meet the eyes of the standing victims. She instead told the Judiciary Committee chairman that she refused to “get into the gutter” or participate in “theatrics.”That brand of callousness, said former George W. Bush speechwriter and RNC spokesman Tim Miller, is going to hurt Trump’s party.“There are people that genuinely cared about this issue, either on the right or within the newer part of the Trump coalition,” Miller told MS NOW host Nicole Wallace. “Trump has had to make a lot of people [who support him] eat a lot of crap over the last nine years … That’s just part of the deal of going along with Donald Trump. But people don’t like to be made to be fools, and made out to be idiots. And that’s what they’re trying to do.”“They’re just trying to basically say, ‘hey, this thing that you cared about, that you told your audience you cared about … posted about and read about, … this elite cabal of men that were sexually trafficking young girls? Well now I’m here to tell you don’t believe your lying eyes,’” Miller continued. “Like, there’s not really anything more to look into. And in fact, what you should care about is that your 401(k) is going up. Just how stupid do you think people are?””This playbook just does not work, and they’re playing their own supporters for fools,” he added.Red Letter Substack writer Tara Palmeri told MS NOW anchor Nicole Wallace that she wasn’t sure how the Republican Party could not be damaged by Bondi’s purported indifference to Epstein victims on Wednesday.“Bondi seemed completely heartless. She seemed completely soulless out there. She seemed like she was working for Trump. She was Trump’s defense attorney, and she had no interest in in these women — 1000 victims, by the way, all with the same stories,” said Palmeri. “She didn’t seem to care at all. And I don’t see how that’s going to help the Republicans going into the midterms.”“This is not the face [Republicans] want. And it was a train wreck. It was a disaster. I don’t know how else to describe it, but today was an embarrassment for them, for the entire party.” – YouTube youtu.be
