The Coastguard was called to New Brighton late this afternoon to reports of four people stuck in the mud
A woman was rescued from a Merseyside beach after becoming stuck in the mud as the tide rolled in. The Coastguard was called to New Brighton on Sunday, February 15 to reports of four people stuck in the mud.
Two had managed to free themselves from the mud by the time the Coastguard Rescue Officers arrived at the Tower Rock Armour Groyne, which stretches from Egremont Promenade into the Mersey. A third person was crawling through the mud to safety.
But one woman remained stuck as the tide came in. The Coastguard requested assistance from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service. Firefighters dispatched the Marine Fire One rescue vessel to assist in the rescue. Two firefighters entered the mud and made their way out towards the woman.
Firefighters dug the woman free and walked her to safety. She was assessed by paramedics for any injuries.
Coastguard Officer in Charge Daniel Aspey said: “This was a good multi-agency incident from all services, with the female being recovered from the mud quickly after the 999 calls. We had systems in place such as a rescue boat and recovery systems if required.
“Thanks to the members of the public who called 999 and stayed on scene to help keep the group calm.”
