National Highways has told drivers to “take care on approach”
Two lanes are closed on the M62 motorway tonight due to flooding. The lanes are shut to traffic on the eastbound carriageway between Junction 11, for Birchwood in Warrington, and Junction 12, for the M60.
A National Highways spokesperson said: “Two lanes are closed on the M62 eastbound between J11 Birchwood and J12 M60 due to flooding in the carriageway following heavy rain. Please take care on approach.”
The Manchester Evening News reported that the lane closures were first reported at around 9.30pm. Traffic monitor INRIX said: “Two lanes blocked due to flooding on M62 Eastbound from J11 A574 Birchwood Way (Birchwood) to J12 M60 J12 (Eccles Interchange).”
The latest Met Office weather forecast for the north west predicts rain will continue throughout this evening and into the early hours of Saturday morning.
The forecast states: “Remaining cloudy this evening as rain clears northwards. Some clearer spells emerge from the south overnight, though cloud lingers over hills in the east. Winds becoming light overnight. Largely frost-free. Minimum temperature 5C.”
