It was the 40% question that caught people out at home
ITV’s The 1% Club returned for another night of brain-bending questions. At the top of the show, host Lee Mack introduced the guests to the game and explained the rules as always.
The quiz show sees 100 contestants begin as they try to pass a series of increasingly difficult logical problems. If anyone can answer the question, only 1% of the population could get it correct, then they could head home with a huge jackpot. Contestants of all ages and backgrounds can take part, because logic and common sense are the keys to success, rather than general knowledge.
It was the 40% question that had everyone talking at home. It also got 12 of the contestants competing out as well. The question was: “The same four letters can be used to fill in each of the gaps below: what are those for letter?
“When all the different coloured **** in Kyle’s printer started leaking, he head to scrub the stains on his **** in the **** to get clean.” The answer was i,n,k,s. The first missing word was inks, the second was skin and the third was sink.
One viewer said: “I didn’t get the question, that was tricky”, whereas another added: “Bye. I’m out. I wish I read it properly.” A separate viewer posted a GIF of Homer Simpson, alongside his catchphrase, D’oh. Another wrote: “Not a clue. Not enough time for me..”
The question comes after last week saw host Lee Mack admit he felt “very tense” after an awkward run-in with a die-hard fan who was only there for a photo with him.
During Lee’s warm-up with the audience, he asked contestant Anna what she would do with the money. Revealing she had no interest in the grand prize, she said: “I’m not really here to win, I just wanted to see you. I’m hoping to get a picture or something.”
Lee told Anna if she made it to the final question and joined him on stage he would be delighted to share a selfie. The contestant was quizzed again on what she’d do with the money.
She said: “Again, I’m not really here for the money so I don’t really expect to win the money. I’m just here to see you and get my picture.”
Lee joked he may “have to get an injunction,” with Anna saying: “No, no not in a stalker way. We have met before. I came to watch you in the audience of Not Going Out and got to come back stage. I knew Martin from lighting so we got to go back stage and Matthew Kelly was there.”
Anna promised she was “not weird”, prompting Lee to joke he’s not seen his wife since that day. Anna added: “She’s beautiful. I don’t want to steal you from her, I’ve got a husband, I just really like you.”
Lee said: “This isn’t at all awkward. Thank you very much. I do this bit at the beginning of the show to let everyone relax, and I think everyone is relaxed now, but I’m very tense.”
Anna received her photo during the same round she was eliminated, even planting a fake kiss on Lee’s face during the process. Into his mic, Lee joked: “Can I get her removed, please?”
