Former Coronation Street star Beverley Callard has shared a health update as she is preparing to undergo a big operation tomorrow. The actress, best known for playing Liz McDonald on the ITV soap from 1989 until 2020, took to social media to give fans an update after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
The 68-year-old received the devastating diagnosis just 20 minutes before she was set to film her first scenes for the Irish soap Fair City earlier this month. She has since announced that medics caught the cancer early and she will be having an operation and radiotherapy.
In a video shared on social media on Wednesday, Beverley informed her followers she will have two of her lymph nodes removed during an operation on Friday as a precaution.
She said “Another update, just to let you all know what’s going on. I went to the hospital this morning and they wanted to talk to me about the lymph nodes and lymph glands.
“They’re pretty sure it’s not in the lymph nodes, but they are going to take two out on Friday when I have the operation to make sure. So it’s quite a big operation I’m having, but I trust them completely.”
She went on to thank the staff at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, describing them as “truly amazing”.
She said: “I have to tell you it’s the Norfolk and Norwich hospital and they are truly amazing. They spent ages with me, and with every patient as well.
“What is great is you can sit there chatting to other people who are going through what you’re going through and obviously some of them are in a far worse position than me so I thank my lucky stars. The world is full of really strong women that’s for sure.”
The actress said she is nervous ahead of Friday’s operation, telling fans: “The waiting is the worst bit.” She said: “I have to tell you the house is so clean because I can’t stop and think about things.”
She added: “I’m feeling strong and positive. Let me know if you’re going through it and how you’re feeling. Truly your stories mean a great deal to me.”
Fans rushed to the comments to send their love and support to the star, thanking Beverley for being open and honest about her treatment.
Coronation Street’s Catherine Tyldesley, who plays Eva Price on the soap, sent her love in a heartfelt message as she said: “Sending love darling. You’ve absolutely got this.”
One follower called Michelle said: “All the very best for Friday Bev” while another called Sinead said: “Be thinking of you. Sending you so much love and healing positive vibes x.”
A third said: “Sending very best wishes and so good to hear you are being well cared for by the NHS.”
