The steps of St Luke’s Bombed Out Church were draped in blue and yellow today as Liverpool recognised four years since Russian troops marched on Ukraine. This month marks four years since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, with the first bombs falling on February 24, 2022, forcing civilians to flee for their lives.
More than 5m Ukrainians had to leave their homes, taking refuge in Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Spain and beyond.
The UK welcomed more than 250,000 Ukrainian refugees, many of whom still remain in the country today. Meanwhile, as the war in Ukraine continues, around 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have lost their lives, and a large number are considered officially missing, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
