An Antiques Roadshow guest was taken aback when he learned that a rabbit brooch he’d carried to the show in a plastic bag was worth thousands of pounds.
The man took the gold bunny pin to expert Joanna Hardy to be valued during an episode of the BBC favourite, which is presented by Fiona Bruce.
He’d estimated its worth at up to £1,000 and appeared astonished when the fine jewellery expert revealed that the eye-catching piece, dating from the 1960s, was actually valued at around £3,000, reports the Express. Should they identify which jewellery house created it, the item could command a staggering £8,000 to £10,000.
The piece featured on the programme last year, with the owner revealing he’d bought it at an antiques fair 25 years earlier.

As it was displayed, Joanna observed: “Usually people come to my table and they’re showing me a jewel in a box, but you came and showed me the bunny brooch in a plastic bag.”
The owner maintained: “Well I only put it in that plastic bag to come here to be honest.”
“I’m pleased, I’m pleased about that!” the specialist joked.
Whilst Joanna inspected the piece, she noted it was 18 carat gold and had been crafted in the 1960s.
“I am very delighted that he’s here, because as soon as I saw this and felt it, I just knew, ‘Oh, we’ve got something special here,'” she said.
“For something that is basically metal, it has life to it. And that’s because it’s a good quality piece of jewellery. It’s got here the eye, which is sapphire, and the little eyelid is diamonds, little circular cut diamonds.”
Yet TV star Joanna revealed there was “a but”, saying: “The but is, I think the LS that is engraved at the top by the ear is nothing to do with the maker. There is even sort of a scratching mark down the side, but that’s someone’s sort of shop code. So that’s got nothing to do with the maker on it either.”
“So, it would just need a little bit more digging,” she continued.
“As is, without it being attributed to a particular jewellery house, it is so beautifully made, you’re talking at least £3,000,” she revealed, prompting the owner to gasp: “Oh God!”
He admitted he’d estimated it was “about a thousand”, and Joanna informed him that if it could be linked to a jewellery house like those she’d referenced, such as Cartier or Van Cleef & Arpels, he “would be looking at about £8,000 to £10,000”.
“And it does not want to go back in a plastic bag,” she quipped.
