Historian backs claims Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor could be investigated for TREASON

A royal historian has backed senior MPs calling on Parliament to investigate Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor for treason.Tory heavyweight Tom Tugendhat has suggested the creation of a special committee to probe the former prince’s alleged links to Jeffrey Epstein. He said the alleged actions of the ex-Duke of York, who was arrested on his 66th birthday on suspicion of misconduct in public office, bring about “urgent questions” surrounding possible national security concerns.Between 2001 and 2011, Andrew was the UK’s Special Representative for International Trade and Investment. He resigned over his controversial friendship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Andrew has consistently denied any wrongdoing. The backbencher told The Sun: “This goes beyond what a court could reasonably consider. Parliament must consider what it means for the country. If the worst is proved, do we need to revisit treason laws written 700 years ago?”Meanwhile, speaking on the Camilla Tominey Show earlier today, Labour Minister Bridget Phillipson refused to rule out Government intervention on the controversial matter. She told GB News: “Our position is that we should keep all of these options open, but we need the police investigation to carry on so nothing will happen while this police investigation is underway. “But we do believe that all options should be open for consideration. This is extremely serious.”Now, royal historian Alexander Larman has weighed up whether the ex-Duke of York could be investigated.”It’s quite strange,” he told presenter Dawn Neesom. “It’s no longer a capital offence, which it was up until relatively recently, but there are still occasionally convictions for treason, because what’s interesting to remember is that it’s a different crime to terrorism, which is what people are usually convicted of these days.”I mean, treason is generally when somebody who is usually in a public office has essentially done something which can be held against the Crown.LATEST ON ANDREW:Key obstacle could block No10’s ‘vindictive’ bid to remove Andrew from line of successionProtection officers accompanied Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor at Epstein party, emails claimLawyer of Epstein’s victims urges King and Prince and Princess of Wales to speak up about Andrew”And given the actions of both Andrew and Peter Mandelson, they might fall into this category.”The former New Labour Cabinet Minister and ex-ambassador to the US Lord Peter Mandelson is currently being investigated for misconduct in public office as well.”I mean, it’s quite hard to say at the moment because we are still very much in that era where we don’t actually know the full extent of what is in the files,” Mr Larman added.”But the fact that someone like Tom Tugendhat, who is not a hysterical person, has come out and said this means there is obviously support at Government level for this kind of investigation.”You start to think to yourself, treason or anything – don’t think that was on anyone’s bingo card at the start of this year!” the expert quipped. But, in a further personal attack on Andrew, the historian added: “I don’t think the man’s got anything going for him at all, but I think he’s too stupid to be a traitor. “I don’t think he’s actually somebody who would have deliberately sat down and committed treason.”But I think for with Andrew it might just be his his ignorance of the fact that he wanted to be sucked up to by people like Epstein, a very intelligent man, would have been his downfall.”Our Standards:
